Welcome

We invite you to the Blended Intensive Program “Embedded Systems: ROS in Embedded Design for Mobile Robots”.

This hands-on program brings together students from universities accross the Europe to explore the design and implementation of embedded systems in the context of mobile robotics.

Throughout the course, you will dive into the ROS 2 (Robot Operating System) ecosystem, learning how to design and program embedded components that communicate within robotic systems. You’ll gain practical experience in microcontroller programming, sensor integration, and robotic system design and implementation culminating in a team project focused on localization and navigation for mobile robots.

The BIP is designed for late Bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or similar study programs. It is organized within the framework of the Erasmus+ programme and after positive completion of the course is awarded with 3 ECTS credits.

Program

The program consists of two complementary parts: a virtual and an on-site component.

Virtual component

The virtual component consists of a series of online lectures introducing the key topics of the course:

  • Simulation as a tool for system development - Jorge Barreiros, ISEC Coimbra
  • Getting Started with ROS 2 - Janusz Jakubiak, PWr Wrocław
  • Introduction to micro-ROS - Thomas Herpoel, HELHa Mons
  • Localization techniques for mobile robots - Sérgio Correia, IPP Portalegre
  • Programming Embedded Platforms for Robotics - Fernanda Coutinho, ISEC Coimbra

The lectures will take place between 26.01 and 8.02.2026 (exact schedule to be announced).

On-site component

The on-site component will take place at Wrocław University of Science and Technology from 16-20.02.2026.

There, you will apply the knowledge gained during the lectures through practical workshops covering the following topics:

  • Programming hardware interfaces in embedded systems
  • Practical development of ROS system
  • Localization and navigation of mobile robots
  • Implementation of micro-ROS-based robot controller

Finally, you will have the opportunity to apply these skills in a project focused on developing and implementing a localization solution on a robotic platform.

Registration information

To register for BIP, contact your home university for individual requirements. The home university should then provide the list of nominated students.

We ask you also to fill the application form: link to the form.

As the number of places is limited, participants will be selected based on their motivation and how their background fits the program. We aim to create an international group with a good balance of participants from different universities and countries.

Registration deadline is 1.12.2025.

The list of the accepted participants will be announced until 10.12.2025.

Contact

With additional questions regarding registration, contact with us using the form.
